What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a deeply relaxing Japanese complementary therapy founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century.

The Japanese word Reiki translates to “universal energy.” It is described as a gentle form of energy healing that aims to balance the energy fields in and around your body. Because it is completely non-invasive, Reiki has become a highly popular therapy and is commonly used alongside conventional medicine in the NHS, private practices, and hospices to support patient wellbeing.

What happens
during a treatment.

Your session can take place in our peaceful consultation room or in the comfort of your own home. Our main goal is to create a serene environment where you can completely unwind.

i.

Getting comfortable

You will remain fully clothed throughout the entire session; you simply need to remove your shoes and coat. You can choose to lie down comfortably on a treatment bed or sit supported in a chair.

ii.

The atmosphere

We often dim the lights and play soothing background music to help you settle in. You can keep your eyes open or closed.

iii.

The technique

The practitioner will place their hands gently on or slightly above specific areas of your body, usually starting at your head and working down to your feet. There is absolutely no massage, pressure, or physical manipulation involved.

iv.

The experience

Everyone experiences Reiki differently. You might feel a mild tingling sensation, a comforting warmth, or a refreshing coolness. Even if you do not feel any physical sensations at all, deep relaxation is the most common result.

Ar ôl.
After your session

A session usually lasts an hour. Afterwards, you might feel a little thirsty. We recommend drinking plenty of water, avoiding strong, caffeinated drinks like coffee, and resting at home to get the absolute most out of your treatment.

When can I have a Reiki session?

Can I have more than one session?

Absolutely. While a single session is a wonderful way to relax, many clients find that receiving three or four regular, ongoing treatments close together provides the most noticeable benefits. We are happy to discuss a treatment plan that works best for your schedule and personal health needs.
